Art therapy doesn’t mean taking art classes, and it certainly doesn’t require you to subject your art to the judgment of others. We’ll work with you to find the right strategy. In most cases, you’ll talk about your feelings while engaged in art such as painting or drawing. Your therapist might also give you homework assignments. These art projects can help you think about your feelings in new ways. You might, for example, find that much of your art involves fires. This could provide a clue to your emotions that discussion does not offer.
Your therapist will never judge your art or your feelings. Your art is merely a tool for better understanding your emotional state. So you should not feel self-conscious.
